Back To School

As we gear up for Back to School, there are a few things to remember as you check supply lists and restock.
The first thing you should do is check your child's grade level or even classroom teacher supply list.  Sometimes stores like Wal-Mart, Staples, Office Depot, and Target have these lists available.  They are also posted to the front of the school buildings your child attends or even the website.  It's always best to stick to the list and not get a whole bunch of extras.  If you are like me, I love office supplies and back to school supplies especially the arts and crafts stuff!  Here are some great things to have on hand at your house as you are doing your shopping.  Scissors, Elmer's glue, wide ruled and college ruled paper.  Also if you have little ones in grades K-2, you want to keep a primary handwriting tablet on hand.  It's really important for them to practice their handwriting and other basics.  Also, pick up some construction paper and poster board.  These are great for classroom and individual projects.  I like going to Dollar General for a lot of it. They usually have a great selection and very reasonable prices.  Other handy things are twine and crayons/colored pencils/markers.

About My Blog

This blog site should be used as a great resource for teachers, parents, and students.  It contains lots of fun sites both educational and non-educational.  It also has some of my favorite programs to use to do different things for presentations and activities.  Some of the sites require a membership fee, monthly payments, or if you have one through your school, it is just a convenient and easy to follow link.  Be warned though. . . not everyone has chosen to use the sites responsibly.  There may be some inappropriate language or titles with some of the sites--within the site. Unfortunately as parents, we cannot control everything online.  I'll post tips on ways to help your kids and you become better navigators too, though.  I'll try to mark those with a red link color.  If you have questions about some of the sites or how to use some of the software, please post them to me, and I will either answer the question myself or send you to a great resource you can use. Some of these sites are also for students or teachers only and it will ask for verification that you are a student or teacher.
